The Eco-Socialist is the online publication of the political organisation Eco-Socialist Horizon.

Eco-Socialist Horizon was launched towards the end of 2025 to provide eco-socialists in Britain with an organisation through which to develop and express their politics.

The organisation aims to take both practical political action and intellectual work equally seriously. Without one, the other is merely an indulgence.

We approach both strands of work from a simple starting point. In a conjuncture heavily pregnant with a unique constellation of crisis and contradiction, the answer to that most crucial question, ‘what is to be done?’, is less clear than ever.

Only by embracing uncertainty and a culture of strategic experimentation can we hope to chart a path out of the crises and into the process of eco-socialist transition.

In this vein, The Eco-Socialist aims to provide a platform for members and supporters of Eco-Socialist Horizon to experiment with analyses of the conjuncture, our movements, and strategies for building eco-socialism.

Contributors are encouraged to offer original analysis including (but not limited to) comradely engagement with the ideas and practice of our own organisation, Eco-Socialist Horizon, as well as others in the wider movement. ‘Comradeship’ here is understood to constitute both maximally sympathetic and unflinchingly rigorous critique.

In doing so, we hope to advance political and strategic debate in the movement while contributing to a sharpening of analytical and strategic skill among Eco-Socialist Horizon members and beyond.

The Eco-Socialist is, therefore, in a sense, itself a meta-experiment in promoting a movement culture of conjunctural analysis as core to animating the dialectic between theory and practice. We hope that comrades will derive value from engaging in this as readers and/or contributors.
